The Look
Good from far, far from good. Before seeing this shoe without a macro lens, we thought it ticked all the boxes: Classic, minimalistic and clean.
It’s a shoe that you can literally wear with nearly anything and get away with it. But there are issues with the way that the shoe has been put together. There are spots of glue exposed and gaps where the sole meets the upper. We’re not sure if this a lack of care or lack of quality control, but only time will tell how this will affect the longevity of the shoe.
But despite those flaws, the leather upper is soft and the natural creases look the part. It does look slightly off-white in photos compared to the sole, but in reality the contrast isn’t so stark.
The neoprene heel accent is a great touch. It doesn’t look out of place and serves a couple of functional purposes; ease in slipping the shoe on/off and comfort.
Although the silhouette is slightly chunkier than competitors, it’s not out of place given the company’s skater heritage.
The Feel
Admittedly we wear a size 10, but bought a size 11 as this was the only pair available and some reviews say they run small. In saying that, a 10.5 would’ve been perfect.
The leather upper is of the softer variety and isn’t hard or plasticky, it’s supportive without giving up it’s structure.
Again the neoprene heel accent definitely adds to the comfort level and also makes it easy to slip the shoes on and off.
The saw tooth rubber sole looks decent and will hopefully stand up to every surface we walk on. We’ll report back on break-in times and wear in the future.
Is it Affordable?
Most definitely! Also since we got it on sale, we can’t recommend it enough. It ticks all our boxes, but it’s still inexpensive so if you need a beater pair that still looks the goods, the Clae Bradley is it.
Yes, we can hear you asking, ‘what about the Stan Smith?’ We totally acknowledge that they occupy the same price point and they’re both great choices. However, the Adidas Stan Smith probably leans more towards the casual than the Clae Bradley, but you can’t go wrong with either.
