The Look

When you start comparing a bunch of low leather white sneakers, somethings will stand out that others might not point out. For instance, the Reid’s side profile is actually quite low and sleek when compared to other sneaker silhouettes in the same category.

With minimalist white sneakers, it’s surprising that details seem to be as important as lack of details. The vamp has no stitching or extra layer of leather, but there is stitching from the top eyelet that runs to the sole in a flattering way. There’s extra leather padding at the heel cup and a nondescript rubber sole holding the upper in place by some great stitching.

The best part is probably that there’s no branding on the outer of the shoe at all. The only time people know what brand you’re wearing is when you take the shoe off and see Beckett Simonon on the insole. If you want branding on the outside, this is not the shoe for you.

The leather looks heaps decent for a shoe in this price range. There’s a few wrinkles here and there on the outer and some wrinkles and tiny tears on the inner. But getting full grain calfskin leather at this price point, some imperfections can definitely be justified. Some people won’t care, but I like to show exactly what I find when looking at shoes this closely.

The Feel

The calfskin leather upper isn’t the most buttery soft we’ve felt, but it’s still feels great to the touch. It’s not super supple out of the box, but it feels supportive and should soften and mould to your feet as you use them. I’ll post an update on this after wearing them for a few months.

Like the heal and the opening of the shoe, the tongue is padded and adds some comfort compared to other shoes without the aforementioned padding.

Following Beckett Simonon’s size guide, was right on the money. My sneaker size is a US10 and they recommended a US9.5 and my feet fit perfectly.

The cotton laces aren’t waxed from what I can tell and the rubber soles had a good feel and grip on the first few wears, but will also update this as I wear them more.

Is it Affordable?

You betcha! At this price range (especially with readily available discounts) it’s hard to beat the Reid for a minimal leather white sneaker. Of course if you’ve got $50 less there’s options and if you’ve got $50 more there’s options.

If the $150 price mark is as high as you can go, this is probably your best choice. It’s minimal and classic, but won’t break the bank. Just remember Beckett Simonon use a made to order model, so it does take about 3 months for the shoes to be made then some delivery time after that. So definitely keep that in mind.
