Review: Everlane, 3 Piece Fit

Review: Everlane, 3 Piece Fit

When it comes to basics, I carry the Uniqlo flag pretty proudly. Uniqlo hits my basics budget and quality targets frequently and I don’t have much to complain about. In saying this, I’ve always wanted to try Everlane’s basics since they finally started shipping to Australia at the end of 2016.

I’m not here to talk about Everlane’s mission to produce great quality clothes ethically. You’ve probably heard all about it. I’m here to take a closer look at their high quality but reasonably priced basics. To do this, I picked out three of Everlane’s pieces: their stone chinos, grey sweatshirt and ochre jacket.

As with all basics, my favourite thing about this three-piece from Everlane is that you can mix and match them with pieces from your current wardrobe and get tonnes of wear out of them.

Everlane Performance Chino, Classic French Terry Crew, Chore Jacket and Clae Bradley Sneakers

The Specs

Everlane Performance Chino

ColourStone
FitSlim (33×32)
Fabric94% Cotton, 6% Elastane
MadeJiangmen, China
Features4-way stretch, sweat-wicking, quick-drying

The performance chino is versatile and can be paired with a range of tops; Oxford button down, plain t-shirt or in combination with a blazer, it still works. The stretch in the chino is definitely noticeable, but not so much that it feels like tech wear. They still feel like real cotton chinos. The fit is slim, slightly tapering towards the ankle. I got mine hemmed because of my short ass legs which gave it more of a relaxed silhouette, which I’m a fan of.

Everlane Classic French Terry Crew

ColourHeather Grey
FitM
Fabric100% cotton
MadeHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam
FeaturesTightly spun 12 oz French terry cotton

Perfect for lounging around or going to run some errands, this French Terry crew is comfortable. It’s simple enough to pair with jeans to get you out and about, remain comfortable but stylish. Keeping the sweatshirt in a neutral grey makes it easy to match with other items in your wardrobe. The fit isn’t too slim or too boxy, the raglan sleeves keep it relaxed and casual.

Everlane Chore Jacket

ColourOchre
FitL
Fabric100% cotton
MadeJiangmen, China
FeaturesDurable cotton twill, 4 large pockets

With the chore jacket you’ll find it easy to pair with other outfits, layer for unpredictable weather days and still look good. There are two upper pockets with a flap that can be buttoned down. This isn’t seen on all chore jackets but it’s a nice detail. The ochre colour is nice and earthy, so it shouldn’t be a problem to mix it in with other earth tones. Based on Everlane’s size guide, I sized up from a medium to a large and it fit perfectly.

The Fit

It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, what you did, as long as you love me as long as you wear this (outfit). Chinos, a sweatshirt and jacket layered over the top will look good on anyone. You can vary the colour and fit of each item a bunch of different ways and still put together a heaps decent outfit.

Putting all the Everlane items together for a neutral basic outfit is also fool-proof: each of their pieces work perfectly together. The performance chino down low, french terry crew and chore jacket up top, is a simple casual outfit that will keep you comfortable but stylish at the same time. Don’t forget to add some clean white sneakers and a watch to finish off the look.

Is it Affordable?

Yes, for quality basics I think these three items are worth it. I’ll have to report back after a few washes and wears, but so far everything is holding up great.

You can definitely get cheaper basics elsewhere, but the caveat is that they probably won’t last as long. You can also spend too much on basics, which will last about the same as other relatively inexpensive brands. Everlane happily sits in the middle; they aren’t too expensive, but they aren’t cheap either.
