Article: Chores are fun again
Originating from France in the 19th century, the chore coat has become a workwear staple. The practicality stemming from the French labourers jacket of choice consisted of 3 large patch pockets and was made from durable cotton or moleskin.
Historically the chore coat was blue, in France know as ‘bleu de travail’ which translates to ‘blue work’. However, with workwear crossing the line from working class outerwear to the runway in recent years, the variation in colours and materials used to produce the chore coat is large to say the least.
If you’re thinking of adding a chore coat to your wardrobe, we would definitely recommend it. They’re easy to layer, dress up/down, and can be used as a versatile substitute for a light jacket or over-shirt.
As with all outerwear, fabric and fit is everything. You’ll find the chore coat made in everything from the traditional heavy cotton twill, moleskin, denim, wool, linen and more. The point is, you’ll easily be able to find one that will suit the season, style or occasion of your choice.
