Review: Beckett Simonon – Gallagher Boot in Tan

The Gallagher Boot from Beckett Simonon is pretty versatile, from dress pants to jeans and in-between, it’s got a lot of your boot looks covered.

This is my take on my pair, check it out and see if it’s for you.

The Look

My pair had a bit of creasing, wrinkling or loose grain on the side of the shoe and towards the heel. Definitely not a deal breaker, but something to note in this price point.

Other than that, I really liked the styling of the boot. It’s almost as if a dress boot, a combat boot and a moccasin had a love child. And it seems to work, as it’s not strictly a dress or casual boot. It’s easy to rotate your dress shoes when there’s a dress boot in the mix, and if you need to dress up a casual look, the Gallaghers definitely fit the bill.

The speed hooks and pull tabs are useful. Despite the creasing, the leather looks great and once again Beckett Simonon’s version of a ‘tan’ coloured shoe is inoffensive. It’s not too light and changes colour depending on the light it’s in.

The Feel

Boots aren’t always the comfiest to break in, but this pair was fine after a few days. I didn’t get any blisters, but I did feel a little constricted from the ankle up. The laces also kept getting undone in the beginning (this could’ve been user error from yours truy) but I haven’t had this issue recently.

The calfskin upper is not super soft but still feels great for a boot at this price point, and the full grain leather interior is just as nice.

Regarding the soles, personally I’d like more rubber on the soles of my boots, but the leather soles aren’t too slippery and the rubber heel helps provide some grip.

Is it Affordable?

$229 for a pair of full grain, calfskin leather boots is a no brainer. Especially when they’re cheaper with various discount codes. The versatility of the Gallagher boot will get you a lot via cost-per-wear, even if you’re not really a boot guy, it gives you a good chance to rotate your dress and casual shoes every now and then.

And don’t forget that they’re blake stitched too, which means you can resole them to give them even more life when the soles are worn down.
